The McMillan Condos – Winnipeg, MB
The McMillan, an exclusive luxury development in the heart of Winnipeg’s Crescent wood/River Heights area. The high-end, multifamily project will feature 12 customizable residences, ranging in size from 1,200-1,500 sq. ft.
Right in Westland’s wheelhouse, this project adds a unique and innovative twist as it will be constructed using pre-fabricated structural wall panels in order to alleviate some constraints of the infill site.
“Everyone is always striving to do things faster and for lower costs, but still maintain quality. So being able to do things in a controlled environment as opposed to being at the whim of an open site makes complete sense,” says Peter Grose, President and CEO with Westland Construction Ltd.

How Light-weight Building Systems Inc. Met the Challenges
This project is the 1st project where LBS has partnered with Nucor and used the Ecospan composite floor system. It is a unique flooring system made up of open web steel joist, steel decking and concrete. LBS is constantly striving to build using the most advanced and cost-effective flooring systems to decrease schedules and increase quality.
The Solutions We Created
The main floor parking had structural challenges that LBS had to overcome. The entire building was deigned to be supported by 9 specially made girder trusses, each weighing 9,000lb. An extra crane was brought in to ensure the trussed were installed safely and correctly on site.
Results, Return on Investment and Future Plans
Pre-cast concrete balconies were designed for this project each weighing over 9,000 lb. Through careful planning and coordination with other trades the balconies were installed and blended in seamlessly with the LBS wall and floor system.
