Massive Fire Shows Why Material Choice Matters in Construction

A fire destroyed a condo building under construction in Saanich, B.C early Wednesday. The under-construction building in the 3800-block of Quadra Street and Palmer Road was designed as a six-storey wood-frame complex with 77 units.  This unfortunate event is a strong reminder of how important it is to use non-combustible materials in construction.

Fortunately, this building was not occupied.

At LBS, we are proud to create safer and more reliable buildings for our communities.

Building safe and strong structures means thinking ahead about risks like fire, stability, and long-term durability. Steel studs used in the LBS Systems are a popular choice because they are strong, non-combustible, and better choice for your investment.

Lower Risk, Lower Insurance Costs

As more and more of these devastating fires occur to wood structures there are fewer underwriters who will provide insurance. Insurance savings between a wood frame building and a non-combustible LBS building can be between 25% and 75%. When the costs for insurance is 5% of your budget during construction and up to 10% of your long-term operational costs, this savings can add up considerably over time.

With every fire – wood frame insurance rates will not get any better.
